Emergency Response Team

CERT Training  |  CISM Training  |  IFOC Chaplaincy Training | Counseling Tools For The Chaplain: Introduction

WHAT WE SEEK TO FACILITATE THROUGH NETWORKING AND TRAINING:

  1. Hands on disaster relief: The emergency response capability includes hands-on assistance. This could be anything from holding a clean cloth on a bleeding artery to pulling victims out of a fallen building. This training includes CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) and Strategic Response Intervention. SRI is an ICISF course and is essential for functioning effectively in the command structure of a local or mass disaster.  CERT is a local training, FREE of charge, and is about 24 hours. SRI is a 2 day course, 14 hours of training, and typically costs $300. HOWEVER, with adequate registrations, we will offer it in Lakeland for $85. There are a couple of other required advanced weekend courses available FREE OF CHARGE that move you closer and closer to the action.  Go to www.CERF.ws for more information.
  2. Respite Tent: Practical service in the crisis zone includes anything from handing out water and food to emergency workers, to assisting in a "respite tent." This is a tent/area designed to give emergency workers a refreshing and healing "time-out." Fresh fruit, calming aromas, soothing music, and even massage will be available. In the tent we will tend to practical and spiritual needs upon request. The CISM: Individual/Peer Support training is required. Look at Upcoming Training's for class details and time.  Whereas Chaplains and CISM trained individuals are ideal for this environment, the most impacting experience will be from the simple servant who with caring and warmth hands someone a sandwich and a cold bottle of water.
  3. Critical Incident Stress Debriefing: We are seeking to network local CISM teams, as well as seek to staff new teams.  Minimum Required training will exceed 40 hours of CISM training. The 1st course is CISM: Individual/Peer Support training.  The 2nd course is CISM: Group crisis intervention.  Both of these courses can be completed in one 3-day training.  The 3rd required course is Suicide Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention.  This is a 14 hour training event.  This Debriefing involves small group work where you can assist toward defusing Emergency personnel, or victims from the trauma of the event. It is loosely called psychological "triage." YOU DO NOT COUNSEL or INTERVENE with the participants! You do not problem-solve or advise! You are a support structure, trained to observe behavior, and to assist the defusing process.
